India Rising

New book by e-Types’ Thomas Sehested: India is on the verge of becoming a geopolitical and cultural superpower.
India will dominate the global agenda of the future. And it is more about business than incense. The country is working its way back to the World stage as  both a cultural, economic and political superpower. In his book, Thomas Sehested gives a detailed account of the diversity of the New India. In words and images he describes the melting pot of religions, economic growth, great poverty, impressing effectiveness and disturbing chaos that is India today.

Thomas Sehested is a historian and works as a senior adviser in e-Types on issues of design and communication. His book is based on a life-long passion for India, which he has cris-crossed during 20 years of travels and interviews spanning a long range of both businesses and individuals.

The book is published at Lindhardt & Ringhof Business on April 20, 2010 and has already achieved high acclaim. Danish Business Daily Børsen calls the book “a must-read” for anyone doing business in or with India and gave the book 5 out of 6 mortarboards in its review.

e-Types behind Denmark's first Industrial PhD in design

Assessment committee calls study cutting-edge and of international standard
Since November 2003, Silje Kamille Friis has been employed by e-Types as part of Denmark’s first industrial PhD specific to the design field. On the 2nd of May 2007, she presented her study in front of an assessment committee composed of Prof. John Heskett, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Prof. Anders Drejer, Aarhus School of Business and Ass. Prof. J¿rgen Rasmussen, Chairman of The Aarhus School of Architecture, earning the right to add a PhD to an already impressive C.V.
The aim of the study was to create new knowledge concerning design process and method - using bureaus that have made creativity and conceptualization their core competences as case studies. Using e-Types as a point of departure, the PhD project delves into the creative processes of some of the worlds leading design bureaus and institutions – amongst them; IDEO, Bruce Mau and Humantific.

The project is exceptional in a number of ways. It’s rare to see design bureaus invest in academic research and furthermore Silje Kamille Friis is the first designer in Denmark to have received the Ministry of Science’s approval as an industrial PhD student. In addition the project combines academic design theory with the day-to-day routines of the designers themselves. A combination that according to the assessment committee is a step in the right direction in the field of design and that can potentially bridge the gap between design theory and design praxis.

The result is a unique insight into the field of strategic design and a glimpse of what goes on behind the scenes among some of the absolute front-runners in strategic design today.
