Memories Rely on Places
The essential idea behind Place has been to stage an exhibition in a force field that represents a variety of viewpoints and forms of expression emanating from a common point of departure: Place
The structure and form of the exhibition aims to document a meeting of four artists from Denmark: Claus Carstensen, Torben Christensen, Marco Evaristti, and Doris Bloom on whose initiative the
project has become a reality, and three artists from South Africa: Willem Boshoff, Kendell Geers and Karel Nel. This artistic encounter explores the nature of memory with a visual expression in
cross-cultural perspective. It also interprets memory through layers of experiences, attaining a level of consciousness.
Place is not necessarily visualised exclusively within geographic confines. Nor is it constant. The dimensions are governed by displacements of memory. The irrefutable experiences of childhood have entered an emotional Eden and war zone. Place exists only relevant to time and focuses on how external surroundings, experience and memory leave an imprint and impact on the individual.
