Black Cube
e-Types developed the visual identity for Denmark's first international contemporary arts festival. The festival was called
U-TURN and the design idea was to u-turn the "White Cube" - the phrase used to describe the white galleries where art is usually exhibited - by introducing the Black Cube.
U-TURN is the quadrennial for contemporary art in Copenhagen which displays an eclectic selection of established and up-and-coming artists from all over the world.
U-TURN is fronted by 3 Danish curators with extensive international experience - Charlotte Bagger Brandt, Solvej Helweg Ovesen and Judith Schwarzbart. The 3 curators won a competition hosted by the
Danish Arts Council to decide upon an international art fair in Copenhagen. e-Types worked closely alongside U-TURN before and after the competition advising on communication and strategy.
Further, e-Types designed the visual identity for the event along with a number of publications and lithographs. The identity is built on the concept of the Black Cube in contrast to the White Cube dilemma in art history.

"By centering the identity on the "Black Cube" concept we have tried to turn the way we normally view art on it's head"
explains Jess Andersen and Michael Thouber of e-Types.
e-Types has also designed the launch material alongside a short guide and catalogue published for the exhibition. Finally the official edition - 3 lithographs by the
Romanian artist Dan Perjovschi (b. 1961) were created in collaboration between the artist, U-TURN and e-Types.
