International Aspirations
What does a design school do if it is situated in a small town out in the country, has a long history of producing candidates in pottery and crafts while basically wanting to be known worldwide for
its high quality design education? Telling the true story through branding seemed to be the obvious answer.
Having led a quiet life in Denmark, the Design School Kolding wanted to intensify its communication with stakeholders internationally and communicate the diversity of activities taking place within
the school. They wanted to tell the world that being located far from Copenhagen meant being located closer to Europe, closer to a more international design tradition.
The design solution takes as its starting point the diversity of expressions within the school's many design disciplines. For a long time, the school had named itself DK: rather than The Design School Kolding. By introducing the actual name of the school into the logo, plus introducing a large number of icons to symbolize the diversity, the school achieved a more contemporary and vibrant expression.
