Nearly Perfect
"Nearly perfect" said the judges from The Society for News Design about the Polish newspaper Rzeczpospolita. Together with the English newspaper The Guardian, Rzeczpospolita won the first price for
the world's best newspaper design 2005.
Jonas Hecksher, creative director and partner in e-Types designed the newspaper's typography e-republic especially for the Polish language.
e-Republic has been designed in 27 styles to enable the designers of the newspaper to use typography as a strong characteristic feature.
389 newspapers from 44 countries participated in the competition.
"We had to consider that many Polish words are very long and contain many consonants. In order to keep long words from taking up too much space we have narrowed the typical combinations of z, y and w and worked with the many polish accents" - says Jonas Hecksher.
