Heritage Reinvented

How does a colour taste? When e-Types and DDB designed Jacobsen, extensive tasting and testing was part of the process. e-Types' creative directors and Carlsberg agreed upon the colour for each beer variant based on blind tasting. The visual identity and packaging design for Jacobsen reinvigorates Carlsberg's heritage and won the Danish Design Award in 2007.

I.C. Jacobsen was the founder of Carlsberg. It all began in his small brewery in Brolæggerstræde where everything was done by hand. And now Carlsberg is doing it again. The Jacobsen specialty brewery is the high-end keeper of the Jacobsen heritage of relentless work towards perfection and a great love of beauty and expression.

Jacobsen embodies the very essence of Carlsberg's brewing traditions and heritage and the brewery itself is placed in one of the oldest facilities at Carlsberg in Copenhagen where it all started. Jacobsen is a series of highly intelligently crafted beers combining the brewers' craftsmanship with inspiration from several international beer types.

Jacobsen has put Carlsberg at the center of the Danish market for specialty beers and sales figures surpass even the most optimistic of the original projections. This success is the foundation for Jacobsen's leap onto several international markets.

e-Types and the strategic advertising agency DDB have designed the visual identity of Jacobsen including logo and logotype, bottles, labels, packaging and even the horse-drawn wagons used for specialty deliveries in the Copenhagen area.

e-Types and DDB were awarded the Danish Design Award 2007 on March 29 for their joint effort to create the visual identity for Carlsberg's specialty brewery Jacobsen.
