Sally Singer, Fashion news /features director of American Vogue.

Sally Singer talks fashion and finance in a grave new world
What are the new megatrends from the catwalks around the world? How can fashion again and again make people aspire to new trends? And why and how do you produce and consume things in a world that doesn’t need any more things?

Fashion, capable of spanning high, low and everything in between, acts as a seismograph, capable of navigating the rich tapestries of our society and distilling the overall zeitgeist – the patterns and threads that shape our values, our dreams and our aspirations – into reflections of our culture as a whole. Seen from this perspective, fashion offers us valuable insights into the trends that are shaping consumers, in a market where value, and values, are King.

Sally Singer, News and Fashion Director of American Vogue, talks about fashion in a wider cultural context and discusses consumer insights and emerging trends in the doom and gloom of declining markets and economic downturn.

Prior to coming to Vogue in 1999, Sally Singer was the fashion director of New York magazine, and an editor at American Elle, British Vogue, and the London Review of Books. Her writing has appeared in the Atlantic Monthly, The Guardian, The Economist and The Times Literary Supplement, among other publications.

CEO Mikael Schiller
Acne Jeans

Schiller talks "Branding By Doing" and how Acne turned jeans into PR.

In 1996 ACNE (Ambitions to Create Novel Expressions) opened as a creative advertisement agency from Stockholm with young talents, little experience and grand ambitions. In 1997 a young designer made 100 pairs of jeans that were given away to friends, family and clients of Acne. This gave birth to Acne’s “Branding by doing” philosophy. Instead of the usual adverts, Acne created a steady flow of new attractive products from jeans to films recruiting trendsetting ambassadors who spread the hype of the company.

Today Acne Jeans employs 100 people, has a turnover of over 200 million DKK and has grown bigger than the original mother brand Acne Creative. Meet Mikael Schiller, CEO for Acne Jeans, for a talk on their “Branding by doing” philosophy and how he steered Acne Jeans safely through a financial crisis to become the fashion juggernaut it is today.

Meet Mikael Schiller Thursday, November 27th at 17-20 at e-Types After Dark.
