Realities of the Past
Each year 100,000 people grasp the opportunity to visit The Danish State Archives and learn about the realities of the past. They should all be conveyed with the experience of a graphic identity that has an eye for the future while still showing ample respect for the past.
The Danish State Archives wanted a graphic identity characterised by continuity and tradition. The inspiration for the typeface that was developed for The Danish State Archives was drawn from ancient book spines and thus from the records and documents that the archive's users may encounter as they search the shelves. In this way the identity of The Danish State Archives was updated and graphically refined while retaining deep respect for tradition.
The development of the crown was a project all to itself, where e-Types worked closely wit the Danish State Archives who is also the authority controlling the use of the official symbols of the Danish State such as crowns and coats of arms.
Since the development of the visual identity and design manual, e-Types has performed a number of graphic design assignments for the Danish State Archives, among them annual reports, posters and books.
