Mit Navn er Jørgen Leth / My Name is Jørgen Leth
Art Exhibition design is a common discipline amongst design agencies. This time we wanted to take it a step further by both initiating, conceptualising, and then designing an exhibition portraying
the Danish artist Jørgen Leth (b. 1937). The exhibition is hosted by The Art Society Gl. Strand in Copenhagen, Denmark - widely recognized for its David Lynch exhibition in 2011.
10 PERSPECTIVES OF JØRGEN LETH
Jørgen Leth is internationally known as a pioneer within experimental documentary and filmmaking. Most notable are the surrealistic shortfilm The Perfect Human (1967) and the epic documentary A
Sunday in Hell (1977). He is a poet, a journalist, a Tour de France commentator, and the Danish honorary consul in Haiti.
"When we originally proposed the idea of an exhibition to The Art Society Gl. Strand, it was based on a fascination with his cultural span - from avantgarde to folklore. Almost every Leth
film can be found in the MoMA Film Collection in New York while at the same time Leth is a commentator on the yearly Tour de France for several million sports fans in Denmark. This cultural width
is very unique for highly esteemed artists and makes Jørgen Leth a great inspiration to us, which is what we wanted to show in the exhibition." said Michael Thouber, Head of Art at e-Types.
The Exhibition is composed of 10 installations in 10 different spaces. Here, the audience are met by Jørgen Leths experimental films curated in a large visual landscape, poems delivered in
typographic films, a Tour de France installation based on Jørgen Leths fascination and personal highlights of the race. Finally there will be a multitude of behind-the-scenes shots from his
films, his personal Haitian art collection and an installation displaying erotic camera phone images of his girlfriend, Shilaine - elements of the artist from different perspectives.
EXHIBITION CATALOGUE AS 10 POSTERS
We wanted to create a new form of exhibition catalogue resulting in a series of 10 posters which is available to the audience for free. In every room there is a poster representing the particular
installation.
"At most exhibitions today, only a small percentage of the audience actually uses the exhibition catalogue, which is why we've made something different for people to bring home.", said
Jess Andersen, senior designer at e-Types.
The exhibition is typed in Grot10 - available at Playtype.com
